Tags! Tags! Tags! Everyone uses them in their layouts, why shouldn't you? Of course you can buy them but they're just so darn easy to make, why not save that money and buy some more cardstock or something? You'll need:
- Cardstock
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Paper cutter (or straight edged scissor if you can cut a straight line)
- Hole punch (either scrapbook or office supply)
- Fibers such as ribbon, twine, yarn, etc. Just make sure it compliments your cardstock color.
- Measure and cut out a rectangle. A good basic size would be length = double the width. With a paper cutter, you can measure as you cut.
- Along the top of the rectange, divide it into fourths and mark it with a pencil.
- Measure the length of the corner of the rectangle to the first mark and pencil in a mark down the side of the rectangle an equal measurement. Repeat on the other side.
- Cut from the mark along the side to the first quarter mark on the top. Repeat on the other side.
- Near the center and top of the tag, punch a hole. Be sure to leave enough room at the top to tie a ribbon.
- Take a length of ribbon (or other fibers) and make a loop and stick it through the hole.
- Take the two loose ends of the ribbon and pull them over the top of the tag and through the loop on the other side. Pull to tighten.
You can make your tags in any shape, size and/or color. Basically it just needs a hole and fibers. You can use them for labelling, decorating, or even a clever photo mat for your layout. Experiment around and make yourself a bunch of tags to have on hand just in case.
