Setting an Eyelet

Setting an eyelet is easier than you might think. In fact it is very similar to using your hole punching tool. Just make sure you have the right materials and follow these step by step instructions. You will need:

  • An eyelet setter with the width attachment in place.
  • A craft mat or cutting board so you don't ruin your furniture.
  • Hammer
  • Eyelet. They come in different shapes, sizes, and colors. Make sure your width attachment is the right size for your eyelet.
  • Any paper or die cut with a hole already punched. See Using a Hole Punching Tool.
  • A hard surface to work on.
  1. Place the craft mat down a hard work space (desk, table, floor, etc.) and place your paper over the mat. Make sure that the craft mat is directly under the place where the punched hole is.
  2. Place your eyelet on the hole, ring side up.
  3. Flip paper and eyelet over and place on the mat upside down.
  4. Take your eyelet setter and place it directly on the eyelet. Hold the tool so it is perpendicular to the paper and the attachment side is down fitting snugly on the eyelet.
  5. Take a hammer and give it a few good whacks, making sure that the eyelet has split and fanned out in a starburst pattern. Repeat if necessary or tap down the starburst to flatten.
  6. Remove the tool and you have set an eyelet.
