Inking

Inking is a great way to get that shabby chic or worn out look. You will just be adding a bit of interest and/or color to your paper, photo, or other item. This is a very simple embellishment technique that uses only a few materials. You'll need:

  • Something that you wish ink (paper, stickers, photos (use color copies just in case), wood or metal items, etc.)
  • Ink pad in any color you think would go best with your layout.
  • Sponge
  • Scratch paper (optional)
  1. Take your sponge and dab it on the inkpad a few times until you can tell there is ink on it.
  2. Hold your inked sponge in one hand and the object to be inked in the other. Strike the edge of the object with the inked sponge make a "chopping" motion. Do this until ink smearing all along the edges.  If you are inking flimsy paper, you can put it on a table with some scratch paper under and blot with the sponge to have more control.
  3. For a bolder ink look, do step 2 but use the inkpad to smear instead. Just do the edges or it can get too "ink blot" looking.

Another way to "ink" is to take a diecut or any shape and with a Q-tip, smear the ink from the center out.  It will give you an airbrushed stencil look.
