Embossing
Embossing is creating a raised surface out of melted fine powder. I admit it took me quite a while to work up the courage to try this. Once I sat down and actually did it, I was amazed at how easy it was to create such a fancy look. You'll need some materials and tools that are specifically used for embossing only so there is a little bit of a committment here (unless you borrow a friend's tools!). You'll need:
- Cardstock
- Embossing powder
- Heat Gun/Embossing gun (Trust me, a blow dryer is not enough! It will just blow the powder around)
- Stamp with the image or saying you wish to have embossed
- Scratch paper to work on
- VersaMark stamp pad (available at any craft/scrapbook store that sells stamps or embossing materials)
- Take your stamp, press it on the VersaMark stamp pad and stamp your image onto a piece of cardstock.
- Place your stamped cardstock over a piece of scratch paper and sprinkle embossing powder over it. Make sure you completely cover the image.
- Gently shake off the excess powder onto the scratch paper and funnel it back into the powder's container.
- Put your powdered cardstock on a flat surface and heat the image with the heat gun (make sure you read the instructions on the heat gun first). You can stop when the image is completely raised.
Now you can emboss and no longer feel intimidated by this easy process. Once you have the tools, it's a snap!
